Arabica Coffee - Connoisseur`s choice

"Coffea Arabica" the most important species for good quality coffee

Coffee is one of the most enjoyed drinks of the world. However, all coffee is not the same. The two most common types of coffee plants are Coffea arabica (Arabica coffee) and Coffea canephora. (Robusta Coffee). If you're drinking a cup of coffee right now ... a cappuccino, an espresso or a specialized gourmet coffee ... you're more than likely drinking a coffee-based beverage that contains Arabica coffee beans.

Coffee is a tropical plant that grows between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. It requires very specific environmental conditions: temperature, rainfall, sunlight, wind and soil with good drainage and proper mineral content. The Arabica coffee plant produces a small, bean-sized fruit that ripens from a green color to a dark red color. Within this fruit are two seeds that are called coffee "beans." These coffee beans undergo a processing procedure that results in the Arabica coffee that you purchase.

By the time Arabica coffee has made it to the store for coffee lovers to purchase it, the beans have undergone a vigorous process that makes it the best tasting, of all of the different coffee types. Coffee quality can vary greatly. Pure Arabica beans are the most sought after, because of their unique flavor and aroma, and also because they contain less caffeine than any other commercially cultivated species of coffee. Arabica is the bean of choice in "gourmet" or "specialty coffees."

Arabica coffee produces the rich flavor and body found in the most satisfying cups of coffee. Arabica coffee is difficult to grow, and prone to disease. For these reasons, it requires more hand cultivation, and yields smaller harvests per acre. Arabica coffee is grown at altitudes usually from 4,000-6,000 feet above sea level, and is typically harvested by hand when the cherries are perfectly ripe.
costa rica arabica coffee

Costa Rica and coffee were made for each other!
The central highlands of Costa Rica are counted among the best regions worldwide for growing Arabica - the queen of coffee beans. Our soils exhibit a touch of acidity, being enriched by volcanic ash, abundant in organic matter. This encourages a good distribution of the coffee plants' roots, which in turn absorb humidity, which expedites their oxygenation.

This sequential process enlivens the coffee plants, giving them their delicious Costa Rican Arabica coffee flavor! Costa Rica is the only country in the world to have issued an Executive Decree, banning the production of any other variety of coffee than Arabica, with its more aromatic and delicate character. For more than five decades, Costa Rica has researched coffee seed and plant biotechnology, with the result that only the best varieties are planted.
